Hair: The Chop

Have you ever found yourself scrolling through Lara Worthington’s Instagram just to see more of that bob? Or maybe you’ve googled ‘Nicole Richie hair’ for inspiration and before you knew it an hour had passed? Whoever you stalk for some hair musings before your next hair appointment, there’s no denying we’ve all considered the chop.

So who should really get the chop? What face shape is best suited to that desired cut? What hair type should you have? How do you style the chop (because let’s face it, Bingle doesn’t just wake up with that perfect do).  These are the most frequently asked questions, ones TWAIN have been thinking about for quite some time so we decided to speak with the team at Edwards & Co to get their take on the chop.

The Chop Suits...

KR

There are so many variations of bob's these days, which means anyone can pull it off, if the cut is varied correctly to suit the face shape. For example, a concave bob suits a rounder face as it elongates. The more current textured bob suits a round or heart shape face (depending on how you style and wear!)

The ideal hair type for the chop ...

KR

I love working with hair that is finer in texture, but there is a lot of it. It helps to give you the shape required for the structure of a bob, with plenty of options for shaping if required. A slight natural wave or bend in the hair is fun to work with for the styling aspect too

What is considered a bob?

KR

When I think of a bob, I think of a style that has a clean, blunt exterior base line. The length can be varied anywhere from the ears to just below the collar bone these days. The shape can be enhanced by adding soft texture in the interior of the hair cut or leaving the interior smooth and in line with the length

Who should avoid the bob?

JE

Anyone can, depending on how round their face is dictates how long or short the bob can go. If a client has a round shaped face it is better to flick it to the side
