Makeup: That Jessica Hart L’Officiel cover

It was humble beginnings for professional make-up artist, Sarah Tammer. Childhood days were spent in her Dad’s hair salon and followed on to a hairdressing apprenticeship at 15.

After a few years abroad in London furthering her hairdressing experience – it was time to come back home. Sarah settled back in Melbourne and discovered her passion and inspiration for make-up –and set out to learn as much as she could.

After pursuing her make up studies, she started assisting and began collaborating with other young artists also just starting out; photographers from RMIT, new models, stylists – testing and shooting whenever they could, building a portfolio of work that would soon see her achieving her goal – working commercially.

Sarah’s innate ability to create the perfect complexion, her eye for detail and her creative flair soon came to notice of the magazines. Ultimately this is what an artist aspires to – working with the major titles, collaborating with top models, stylists and photographers to create beautiful images. Her first international location shoot was in Bora Bora for Bride to Be and she hasn’t looked back.

Since that first trip Sarah has travelled to Mexico, India, Bali, Greece, Africa, New York, Paris, South of France, Vietnam, Mauritius, Los Angeles, Thailand and extensively around Australia. She has shot numerous covers, editorials and celebrities.

Meeting and working with Jess Hart led to a longstanding professional relationship and friendship – so it was fitting for them to work together for the cover of L’Officiel.

A cover that is so striking – the nude lip and cat’s eye get TWAIN every time. We speak with Sarah Tammer the make-up artist behind the cover shoot of Jess Hart on L’Officiel Australia – because we need to know how to nail that cat’s eye and what products she used…

The look was inspired by…
50’s & 60’s glamazons! Think Sophia Loren, Bridget Bardot, Jane Birkin and Edie Sedgwik…

What products did you use and how did you create this look?
MAC black track eyeliner for the eyes, LUMA tinted moisturiser in medium, LUMA concealer, as well as a stroke of LUMA’s soft peach blush and LUMA’s natural pearl highlighter.

To accent the shape of the lip I used LUMA lipstick in soft peach with some concealer underneath to tone down the natural lip colour.

Jess and I are big fans of Fumi’s zen facial oils. I always have them on set to create a good vibe… Breathe Ezi to clear the air Radiance to uplift

Tips for achieving this look…
It’s all about the eye, so focus on that and accent it with luminescent skin and a nude lip

This makeup look in 3 words…
Modern. Chic. Cat-Eye

If this look was a city it would be…
Paris!

The extreme eyeliner is best suited to…
Anyone brave enough to nail this look at home – it’s not easy. I would say this look would be best suited to anyone with a steady hand and patience

On complementing a statement eye…
You can go either way – it’s personal taste but obviously for this look we paired down the lip and the rest of the face. I felt that this gave it a modern twist

On nude lips ..
Essential! Get the texture right as pale lipstick tends to accentuate any dryness or rough texture. Keep your system hydrated, if lips are rough you can gently exfoliate – there are many techniques that work, a gentle brush with soft toothbrush or a lip scrub; I like BITE lip scrub or a good lip balm with a tissue my ALL time FAV Lanolips 101.

On working with Jessica Hart…
Jess is awesome! We first started working together many moons ago on Seafolly and we hit off big time. We have remained great friends and work colleagues. I feel very blessed to have her in my life.

On working with L’Officiel…
It’s always fab working with clients who are open and allow you to collaborate and create beautiful chic images
