Skin: How to prepare your skin for NYFW
Fashion Week. The only two words that can manage to energise you as much as a double shot espresso and a net-a-porter tracking number. Who needs a mid-morning caffeine fix when the latest Alexander Wang collection is waiting to be discovered as well as all the front row, backstage, and heck even side stage action your heart desires. Before you know it that 11 am break has taken you through to 3 pm and the closest thing you have to a financial report is a list of items you will be selling on eBay to make that latest investment. If we’re really being honest here, it’s the number one reason we had to start LOVE TWAIN. That and the fact that about three jobs in we realised our bosses would never justify GUCCI slides as part of our work uniform expenses.
Having stalked and pulled apart Fashion Weeks for years, we have always remained perplexed by a certain phenomenon. We liken it to some of the biggest questions raised by mankind, such as the meaning of life and the purpose of Crocs. That question is how, despite travelling to the other side of the world, 5 am call times, numerous catwalks and after parties later, models always seem to look like they just woke up from a 12-hour beauty nap. I mean sure it takes a team, but we have seen those before and after selfies. Case in point, our girl Lianna Perdis. Australia one day, Greece the next, heck even a stop over to make her debut at NYFW. All the beauty sans the bags…
Not content with purchasing the latest strobe cream and concealer, we did the only thing a LOVE TWAIN woman knows how to do, we delved a little deeper. Having made her debut at NYFW, walking the coveted Christopher Esber show, we asked Australia’s rising star to share her pre-Fashion Week beauty routine. Read and learn…
3 days before the runway show I will….
Anyone who knows me knows I’m obsessed with skin care, cleansing, priming and having my skin look and feel fresh. I begin my morning routine by cleansing with Balm Voyage Moisture Complex Cleanser & Makeup Remover. It’s a rich and gentle balm so it won’t strip your skin of its essential oils (which can sometimes lead to breakouts) and leaves your skin feeling incredibly smooth and hydrated.
I then apply Auto Pilot Napoleon Complex Skin Renewal Serum all over my face (and down my neck) which gives my skin an instant wakeup. Whether I’m going to apply makeup or not, I always apply primer next. My go-to primer right now is Auto Pilot Calming Skin Primer. It’s a green-based primer which combats redness and skin imperfections and contains Algae Extract and Vitamin E. I’m then ready to apply makeup (or not) depending on what I’ve got going on, or my mood.
In the evening, if I haven’t been wearing makeup I cleanse with Rebirth of Venus Skin Renewal Cleansing Oil. The oil-based cleanser is amazing for oilier skin types and has Marine Placenta and Lotus Seed to help calm and soothe. If I’m wearing makeup I do a double cleanse with Balm Voyage Moisture Complex Cleanser and Makeup Remover, followed by serum, Supreme Eye Cream and Auto Pilot Lip Service. Then bed!
Then it’s travel time and my in-flight essentials are…
Auto Pilot Lip Service – Menthol and Vitamin E, a protective balm and lip primer in one. I never leave home without it and own one million (slight over exaggeration, but you get my point)
Anti-Pollution – Taramind Seed Polysaccharide restore moisture and condition the skin for plump, fresh and hydrated skin – everything aeroplane AC sucks out of your skin!
Multi-Hydration Gel Cream – this product features Aqua Clear Gel and Elastic Water Holding technology, the gel-cream delivers a cool burst of hydration. I love the way it feels.
When I land it’s all about…
Go, go, go! All my beauty treatments are done on the plane, when I land and the weeks leading up to, as well as the night before the big event. I carry a separate vanity vase when I travel with all my skincare and makeup products as there’s not always time to visit spa’s.
24 hours before the runway you will find me….
On the lounge chilling, either with a good book or watching TV with some sort of face mask on. My top picks are Auto Pilot Radiance-Boosting Mask or Collagen Hydrogel Face Mask. I adore both equally and they instantly revitalise my complexion. I also love Balm Voyage Moisture Complex Cleanser & Makeup Remover as it nourishes my skin and preps it for makeup application.
On the morning off my show the miracle worker is…
A good night’s sleep followed by the new Anti-Pollution Refining Skin-fusion Milk Toning Essence. It’s absolute heaven and I’m obsessed. I use it under or over makeup to tone and re-infuse my complexion. Its milky texture creates a transparent glass-like finish. Perfect for makeup application or simply radiant skin.
For those unexpected visitors (pimples) I turn to…
My trusty Mighty Concealer Pen. Its creamy formula and rich pigment helps to disguise the look of redness and uneven skin texture while being light in consistency, so you don’t feel like a cake face.
And because who sleeps ahead of their runway debut for Esber, for dark circles I turn to…
The one and only The One Concealer. It’s so effective in disguising dark circles, uneven skin tone and spots. It has a peach base that counteracts blue and purple tones. It’s a total life saver on mornings I ‘didn’t wake up like this’. I just tap it on with my fingertips for a quick fix.
Post-show I revive my face with…
Auto Pilot Napoleon Complex Skin Renewal Serum – I use this religiously. The ultimate hydration-infuser for tired, dehydrated skin. You can instantly feel the skin quench it provides, plus it features super anti-aging properties – you can never start too young!
Supreme Eye Cream – emollient and rich in antioxidants, I apply around the undereye area before hitting snooze. My eyes literally say thank you every time I apply it, especially after photo shoots and fashion shows where you’ve had makeup applied, taken off and applied again.
Collagen Hydrogel Face Mask – packed with Hydrolyzed Collagen, Honey, Caviar, Salmon Egg and so much more, it helps firm, tone and relieve skin stress. It’s disposable so it’s literally an anytime, anywhere kind of mask which I love. An absolute skin saver that’s been flying off shelves – for good reason.
Balm Voyage Moisture Complex Cleanser & Makeup Remover – the paraben free balm nourishes, soothes, nourishes and pampers the skin so much. I love to use it with a Muslin cloth and Luke-warm water.
