Culture: Diner En Blanc
Talk about Parisian chic. The concept originated 27 years ago in Paris and now entertains almost 15,000 people across the globe annually. Diner En Blanc, an evening which is one part mysterious, one part fabulous in what has become THE picnic of the year. Think secret location, decedent food, white on white attire and entertainment to match. Gather your friends, your finest china and silverware and join in on the festivities of the 2015 Diner En Blanc, Adelaide.
The TWAIN girls were lucky enough to preview the #DEBALD this evening and if this little snippet is anything to go by, it’s the event of the summer not to be missed. Because Dinner En Blanc Adelaide, Tomich Wines, The Haus Handorf, and B Young PR know how to throw a first class picnic.
What is it?
An annual event that has the new comers guessing but the regulars excited. A giant picnic. Think flash mob – for dinner, in white. Friends come together for a chic picnic in a public space, waiting until the last minute to know where they will be dining – it’s all kept hush hush to aid in the excitement surrounding this global event.
Blanc of course. (Translating to white for those of you aren’t as French obsessed as us). All guests wear white (head to toe, men and women, no ivory or cream allowed), bring your own white table, chairs and a white table cloth and centrepieces (there’s a competition surrounding the centrepieces). And then there’s the food – you can bring your own food and drinks to share, or opt for a packed picnic from the best of the best caterers in town. The food, your outfit, the night – must be spectacular (the Parisian’s don’t do things in half!). Think photogenic moments.
Where is it?
Each year the location changes in every city. Guests board a bus to their secret location.
One of the most prestigious sites that has played host to the French is the Pont des Arts, the Eiffel Tower site, the Esplanade de Notre-Dame… the list goes on.
So follow the Parisians, and join your city’s celebration of Dinner En Blanc.
