Evolution: Zig Zag Applique Top

Trans-seasonal design at it’s best. The Zig Zag Applique Top by none other than NYC based designer to watch, Charles Youssef. The layered top showcases Youssef’s architectural take on design through the use of unique cuts and fabrics.

It can be styled perfectly with a pair of tailored pants (as pictured), or during the warmer months, style with your favourite culottes.

Charles takes us through the evolution of this collection stand out top, which has just landed at LOVE TWAIN…

This style was inspired by Tadao Ando’s Hyakudanen, or garden of a hundred stairs.  The beautiful geometric pattern created by these staircases and flowers is interpreted in this garment using silk zig zag applique in black, navy, and a bold red.

I think it’s important to have strong geometric elements in my clothes, while still being approachable, luxurious, and comfortable. That’s why the fabric is a luxurious 4 ply silk crepe with a soft, comfortable silk lining.

The zig zags are lazer cut, so they always remain intact without fraying.

The silk organza panel at the bottom mimics the idea of a light breeze passing over the staircases and flowers.  So it adds an element of soft movement and grace to the garment.
