Fashion: The rebirth of Lara Worthington
To say it has been a whirlwind 12 months for Lara Bingle is an understatement. A marriage (unconfirmed via a swift instagram name change), a hotly anticipated baby bump reveal (and birth) and a tanning range later and what we have is a figure far removed from the gossip pages of Australian tabloids. Nowadays Bingle is extraordinarily private and protective of her relationship with actor Sam Worthington. Contrary to affecting the model turned entrepreneur’s public image, the move has only seen her star rise. As the media scrambles to catch the latest glimpse of Mrs. Worthington, behind the scenes Lara is more concerned with building her empire and family.
Lara Bingle has long been Australia’s fashion darling, helping set trends and pushing the envelope for the crème de la crème of Australian designers. It was only a matter of time before the industry veteran expanded her horizons and for the model turned entrepreneur, the beauty industry seemed like a natural progression.

Now, just 27, Lara Bingle is both the name and force behind the hottest new tanning range, The Base. Not an easy feat for a figure who has had to rise above the publics preconceptions of her.
Sometimes what is portrayed in the media about you, isn’t necessarily indicative of who you truly are. But I love what this industry can offer women and wanted to try my hand at contributing from a different angle.
Never one to avoid the road less travelled, contrary to other model and brand “collaborations”, Lara was up for the challenge of a 100% hands on approach to creating her new range.
It’s been tough putting together the range, the campaign shoots, the marketing, as the boss and wearing many new hats, but it’s more rewarding than just being the face of a campaign.
Perhaps it has been this labour or love which has led Bingle to place immense importance on customer feedback as opposed to industry recognition (though both have been achieved with great success).
With all the little hurdles along the way, there has been nothing more rewarding and fulfilling than seeing women receive their Base products! I’m more excited about reactions from women who feel the product is satisfying their needs.
So who is The Base made for? As Lara explains it’s all about the modern woman, looking for a quality, affordable and easy to use product to enhance her inner beauty.
The Base collection offers products that help enhance your natural glow from head to toe. It’s not about changing what products you may love and use now, it is about creating products that would compliment and enhance those.
With so many tanning products on the market, Lara was well aware of a need to have a point of difference. For her, quality was key- ensuring all products are Australian made and owned. Moreover, the products are only ever tested on Lara herself.
I am also very passionate about starting The Base as an online store only. This allows me to connect personally and directly with my customers/community. The most important thing for me is the feedback from customers that helps build trust in the brand and it’s products.
There is no arguing that Bingle has come a long way. The focus these days is striking that great work-life balance; knowing how and what to prioritise. If the models media presence is anything to go by, this has meant focusing on family and business away from the prying eyes of the media. As for inspiration, these days Lara looks to groundbreaking business women.
Visionary, self-made women with inspirational careers like Natalie Massenet of Net-A-Porter.com and and Lena Dunham.
When asked to offer words of wisdom for other young entrepreneurs, Bingle stresses the importance of not being put off by failure.
“Take it as a positive turn and learn from it”.
