Spend 5: Megha Kapoor

Megha Kapoor.

With a name worthy of a label, you know you are bound for greatness. Naturally, the title of designer, stylist, editor and fashion darling is bound to follow.

Having accumulated a resume many could only dream of, Kapoor is swiftly cementing her name amongst the Australian fashion elite one ‘cool girl’ project at a time. Showcasing a distinctly editorial styling aesthetic, which focuses on the somewhat paired back and undone, Megha pieces together the kind of ensembles you would expect to see on your favourite Parisian or fashion darling. Sure, at first you will resist and question, then you will emulate, we guarantee it! This is just one of the reasons the likes of I-D and Oyster Magazine regularly come knocking on her ever so fashionable door.

Not to stop at one job title, Megha extends her creative juices through her role as editor of Inprint Magazine, the type of publication that would sit comfortably between Russh and Vogue, right next to your Byredo scent and My Chameleon gift box. And like every fashion darling, there is also the sought after jewellery line to add to the mix, also known as MPNT. Filled with deliciously delicate pieces, MPNT finds its way onto the ears and necks of the fashion elite, the kind of gals that know what the next big thing is before you do.

Now if you think we are crushing a little, you would be correct to assume so. Mark our words and ink her name on your stalks list. Here is why you need to Spend 5 with Megha Kapoor.

Name: Megha Kapoor

Occupation: Stylist & Editor

It all started with: Getting sick at the end of Law School, going travelling and subsequently ending up at VOGUE!

Highlight: Too many – getting to decide how, why and when I work is pretty great though

My job has provided me with: Highs and lows and everything in between

Next project: Watch this space…

Model of the moment: I guess that depends on what ‘moment’ you’re having right now… I would say Rianne Van Rompaey, Mica Arganaraz & Adwoa Aboah

One to watch: I think new faces are getting cycled through each season so quickly, it’s hard to pick that one girl. I think we should always watch a stayer like Julia Nobis – smart, funny, unaffected and an incredible beauty

Work uniform: Flats always! Celine sandals and ballets on rotation currently, usually a pair of jeans (not skinny) and a basic t-shirt. My current love is a grey cotton/cashmere one from 6397. Otherwise a Rachel Comey dress and said shoes. Add a blazer and I’m done

Best beauty tip I’ve learnt on the job: Less is more!! Also if you are going to wear make-up and have an early call time don’t do it in the dark in the back of Uber!

I would love to work with: Christy Turlington

Style muse: I don’t really have style muse as such. I love women with a sense of personality, individuality and an innate effortlessness usually. I can’t stand style that is about show ponying how much money you’ve spent, it’s about the artful tact of putting something great together – to me that’s stylish. Oh and a brain helps immensely too

Go to designers: Rachel Comey, Comme des Garcons, Celine, Jacquemus, I love Lee Mathews slips, I like the men’s round neck cashmere sweaters at Uniqlo and recently bought my first piece from The Row and I know it will not be the last

First fashion heartbreak: I remember at primary school internally combusting when a couple of my girlfriends went out and copied an outfit I was clearly particularly proud of: a pale pink mohair long-sleeved short-cropped sweater paired with a long button-up floral skirt in moss green with small pale pink and white flowers and desert boots. I was 9 or 10 I think.

Favourite design house: Different houses for different reasons. I do adore pretty much everything Simone Rocha does at the moment though

Fashion bible: There’s no such thing! Reading widely and looking at all things that interest and inspire you

On the fashion wish list: Not so much an item, but trying to build an edit of the perfect capsule wardrobe to travel with

Mornings start with: A stretch and a coffee

Before bed I always: Light a candle and have a cuppa

Always in my handbag: Byredo Bal d’Afrique roll on perfumed oil. I have thing about smells

Last person I texted: My sister

Most used emoji: The rolling the eyes one… and the martini

On speed dial: More speed click for me – I order way too much Ding Tai Fung delivery!

Most used app: I’m not very app(y)… I guess Instagram… that’s an app right?

Worst technology habit: Being really bad at it

Current addiction: Ding Tai Fung

I am looking forward to: Everything! And booking another holiday – how good are holidays, definitely going to try and take more this year

Life motto: We spend so much of our lives working, what’s the point if you don’t love what you do?! I love what I do and the people I work with, I am grateful for that.
