Spend 5: Raffaele Marone

There are many perks that come with running your own website such as justifying 4 hours spent on Instagram in the name of research. About two hours in you usually discover that denim jacket which covers a weeks worth of rent and about five coffees later you let your tired and dehydrated brain validate your purchase. And then, when you’re about to permanently delete all your social media apps because you can’t adult – you come across Raffaele Marone, the Italian photographer behind many of the photos responsible for your rather sad bank account. But he’s so pretty that you simply can’t blame him for adding fuel to the fire when it comes to your love affair with Italy’s fashion scene.

Part of a growing clique of fashionable Italian creatives and trendsetters, Raffaele is a name to watch. Regularly capturing many of the names we love to stalk, from Mariano Di Vaio to Patricia Manfield, Marone’s Instagram account is filled with the kind of images you have pinned on your inspiration board. And while his access to some of Europe’s most fashionable names could easily grant him Fashion Week passes and a flood of street style images, he is much more accustomed to creating luscious editorials.

Spend 5 with the man to watch, because we can bet our GUCCI’s, his star is only set to rise.

Name: Raffaele Marone

But everyone calls me: Raffo – since I was child

Current city: I am based in Milan but I was born and raised in the beautiful Naples in southern Italy. I am proud of being Neapolitan, and I will always be grateful to my town because I was able to develop my artistic language

Occupation: I’m a simple photographer in love with beauty, fashion and youth

My story goes: As a photographer I was born six years ago, before this I was an illustrator, graphic designer and filmmaker. I’m lucky because I was able to turn my passion into work. I started taking pictures six years ago, the lookbook of a brand with which I worked as a graphic designer and stylist. I remember saying to the head of marketing of the brand “hey next lookbook I would click it” and from that day I haven’t stopped since. I dedicated myself to photography, I took every day and I learned alone without any school. Pure passion

A typical day looks like: I wake up early, go to the gym, edit photos, search for inspiration, model casting and meetings with my team to organize the next shoot

I will never be tired of: Kate Moss’ face, unique and eternal

I would love to shoot: Adwoa Aboah – I find her very interesting and beautiful. a contemporary beauty. I love her freckles and hair shaved

My favourite shot: I don’t have one favorite shot but I have so many that I really like. I love the Rocky Barnes shoot in the Maldives under a pink and purple sunset, breathless. Or I love very much an editorial that I shoot with Carola Pettorossi in Naples with a SAINT LAURENT Man Suit by HEDI SLIMANE. I really like a job I did with Louise Follain in Paris last month that soon will be released. I have so many!

When on the other side of the lens: I don’t think about anything, just see the beauty of the moment and try to take it in the best way

Work uniform looks like: Ripped jeans, white t shirt and Saint Laurent boots – simple!

Currently working on: A new editorial in Paris with my friend stylist Mariaelena Morelli. I like to shoot with her because she has a very personal vision of fashion and we’re both from Naples so we have fun on the set

Latest thing I posted on Facebook: I never write anything on Facebook, I post some pictures and funny videos I find on YouTube

Everyone needs to follow: For pop culture lovers I recommend HIGHSNOBIETY, the best web magazine that there is around here. I also love theclassyissue, photos and daily inspirations that I need

Super power of choice: I am a huge fan of Dragon Ball and Goku is my favorite character – he has the superpower of teleportation. It is a very nerdy but I’d like to have the same power. In Tokyo I tattooed the face of Goku on my arm, I tell you … I am such a nerd

Best childhood memory: I have wonderful memories of my grandfather, he was a painter and photographer – a true artist. I remember when I was a child and he spent hours with me teaching me to paint. He was very patient with me and it’s thanks to him that I love art

Greatest travel adventure: I love traveling and I’m lucky because I can do it for work. I have traveled worldwide between Japan, America, Asia and I have many fond memories of wonderful trips. I love the sea more than anything in the world. I have been to the Maldives for 15 days to shoot a brand campaign costumes, I saw the most beautiful sunsets and sunrises in my life. On these islands there is nothing but sea, sand, palm trees and silence and I do not need anything else.

On the travel wish list: Definitely a trip to India. I’ve never been and I wish I could shoot an editorial. It would be a mystical experience and definitely exciting.

Next destination: There is definitely a trip to Lisbon for the NOS FESTIVAL in July. There will be three days of music and fun, great artists and great music. Lisbon is beautiful, I was there last year and I recommend you go!

My worst habit: Drinking gin and tonic and smoking

On my to do list: I can’t wait to open up my new studio in Milan. The office will be my new creative base.

Life motto: Work hard, play hard. It’s simple.
